..........Some time ago, before its publication,I wrote about Kevin Barrett's wonderful book, Truth Jihad. It's now out and available, and I couldn't recommend more highly that you get hold of it and read it. You can look here at what I wrote about it last November, and also at a review by Jim Hogue. There's another blurb by me here.

..........At the same time, another collection of essays is just now available, 9/11 and American Empire, vol. 2, Christians, Jews, and Muslims Speak Out. This comes after David Ray Griffin and Peter Dale Scott's powerfully significant opener of this series, entitled Intellectuals Speak Out.

..........This means there's reading to do if you haven't done it yet (later on, I hope, I'll talk a bit about my own experiences with these books—and meanwhile don't forget that one important and greatly unusual thing about Truth Jihad is that in certain crucial passages it will make you laugh your socks off). Also, I hope and trust that you will follow Kevin as he hits the road to push these books. Take a look, for example, at these two front-page stories in Wisconsin local papers. In one, you'll read this: "Vince Statz, a Chippewa Falls man whose 41-year-old daughter, Patty, was killed in the attack on the Pentagon, said Barrett's wacky ideas are an insult to the memory of those who died on Sept. 11." / 'He's an idiot,' Statz said. 'I don't know why people even give him the time of day.' But You'll also read about "Peter Porgerson [who] first heard about Kevin Barrett and his lectures about the U.S. government being behind the Sept. 11 attacks while listening to a radio talk show. 'He was a guest, and I was quite impressed with his responses,' Porgerson said. Porgerson, 63, a retired firefighter from West St. Paul, Minn., who now lives in Colfax, said he became interested in the idea that the U.S. government might be involved in the collapse of the World Trade Center. 'I always thought that the way those buildings fell, it wasn't quite right,' Porgerson said."

..........Meanwhile, Sherwood Ross (shweroodr1@yahoo.com) has written a piece entitled "AMERICA! IF YOU WILL NOT IMPEACH THIS TYRANT, WHO WILL YOU IMPEACH?"

..........Without question the most eloquent piece of writing on the impeachment issue that's yet been formed by human hand or mind, Ross's piece opens by asking, "If you, my fellow Americans, will not demand the impeachment of the worst president in American history, a man who is a traitor to our Constitution, an instigator of unjust wars, a destroyer of worlds, a strutting global tyrant, and a threat to the very survival of human life on this planet, who will you impeach?"

..........And from that rolling, cadenced, first sentence it goes on—and on, and on, often in ways that will remind you of, say, the name-calling scenes in Mistress Quickly's tavern in Henry IV. Pt. 1. It's never wordy, not padded, in no way over-length, and never windy. It's invariably sinewed and tight while also intoxicated with grand and history-touched rhythms that arise from its passion—making it a much-to-be-desired and rare (especially in America) model of the high rhetorical tradition. Further, it is utterly, absolutely, condemning of the Bushiscti and the neocons not only through its way of its naming the crimes of the Bush administration but also in its central and foundational implication: that we in the U.S. in actuality have no real oppositionist government or party sitting in Washington, D.C. We have but one party—and that party is, both in essence and at heart, fascist in its philosophic underpinnings and all too greatly in danger of becoming totalitarian in its actual interpretation, passage, and enforcement of law.

..........And now we turn to Ed Haas and Joseph Murtaugh of the Muckraker Report. These two men have brought us significant news.

..........The story begins with Joseph Murtagh, who, in Muckraker Report, wrote this piece on the Jersey girls—a piece that's called "9/11 Widows Keep on Asking the Tough Questions" and that draws upon interviews by Murtagh of four of the five "Jersey girls." Please read it—and also please do consider signing (if you haven't already) the petition in support of the Jersey girls' demands—a petition explained here by Murtagh: "As disappointed as the widows are with the results of the 9/11 Commission, they haven't given up hope. They've set up a petition online demanding that the government release all transcripts and documents relating to the July 10, 2001 meeting that took place between George Tenet and Condoleezza Rice, which received some media attention last fall when it was referenced in Bob Woodward's book State of Denial. They're also requesting the release of the twenty-eight redacted pages in the Joint Inquiry into the Terrorist Attacks of September 11, 2001 (JICI), as well as the CIA Inspector General's report, "CIA Accountability With Respect to the 9/11 Attacks." ..........It's well worth signing and I hope you will (I did long ago), but here's the really big news, revealed in a Muckracker headline that reads, "Noam Chomsky joins 'Jersey' widows in calling for release of 9/11 documents."

..........That may not seem like much of importance at first glance, but it's really, really big news. With his extraordinary and long-standing reputation as a left critic of the corporatized state and of America's military-corporate-governmental thrust for global hegemony, it has been inexplicable to 9/11 Truth writers and researchers that Chomsky has refused to show sympathy to their position.

..........Joseph Murtagh, in touch personally with Chomsky, has been one of the most sensitive writers about the strangeness of this Chomsky phenomenon. And now he brings the news that Chomsky has indeed himself put his enormous prestige behind the cause by signing.

..........Maybe—maybe—now there will at long last be a thaw in the huge, frigid, block-like silence about 9/11 truth that we've had from so very many figures among the "left." Murtagh puts it this way: "[Now] that Chomsky has agreed to sign the widows' petition, the Muckraker Report would like to see the following people sign too: Alexander Cockburn and crew at Counterpunch, the editorial staff at the Nation, Michael Moore, Barbara Ehrenreich, Amy Goodman, Maureen Dowd, Frank Rich, Seymour Hersh, Nicholas Leman at the New Yorker, Christopher Hayes, anyone who writes for the Daily Kos, including Kos himself, and the absolutely divine Camille Paglia."

..........Amen. And don't forget Matthew Rothschild of the Progressive Magazine.

..........I beg of you who may be reading this, that you keep on reading not only here but elsewhere, that you read the petition and sign it, and that you stay alert and faithful in this moment of emergency that may well be—is—the most important and dangerous in the history—let the divinities prove me correct in adding the phrase "so far"—of our nation. May we succeed in preserving our republic, and in preserving the well-being of our keeper and mother, the Earth.
